We understand that freedom of speech and critical thinking are essential components of a robust education system, encouraging intellectual growth and nuanced understanding. However, institutions must balance these values with trauma-informed practices, considering the potential impact on all individuals involved - including victim/survivors and those who are, or could be, perpetrators.

Before platforming controversial speakers, we must thoughtfully assess the potential consequence and explore alternative approaches that promote critical thinking while prioritising the well-being of all members of our community.
