Lee Milne sentenced to 8 years in prison in first of its kind case in Scotland

On the 10th of April 2026, Lee Milne was sentenced to 8 years in prison for culpable homicide after 18 months of domestic abuse led to his wife’s suicide. He was also convicted of engaging in a course of abusive behaviour towards Kimberly.

The court heard how sustained coercive and controlling behaviour had a profound impact on her mental health, ultimately contributing to her death.

This is a landmark case in Scotland - the first time someone has been convicted of culpable homicide in connection with a domestic abuse-related suicide, setting an important legal precedent.

Speaking to STV News, our Founder and CEO, Fiona Drouet, said:

“I’ve lost count of the number of predominantly mothers that have contacted me and said, I think the same has happened to our family. Hopefully it leads to some training, greater awareness in all of our services, in our justice systems as well, to hopefully ensure that nobody falls through those cracks. We can’t write this off as ‘just a suicide’. If there is domestic abuse before that, we need to look into it.”
