Awareness & Prevention Training (Staff & Students)
EmilyTest’s Awareness and Prevention Training is a 2-hour session which aims to spread awareness of gender-based violence (GBV) and harassment and sexual misconduct (HSM) through testimonial storytelling, educational information, and group discussion.
Participants will learn about Emily’s story and the far-reaching implications of GBV. The training is designed to empower individuals to play a role in preventing GBV and reshape the culture around GBV at their institution. All content is delivered using a trauma-informed, inclusive approach.
Grounded in lived experience and sector expertise, the training aligns with current legislation, policy expectations and best practice across higher education (including Office for Students Condition E6).
The session is customisable for staff or student audiences - institution policies, signposting and reporting pathways can be embedded within the training content.
What does the training cover?
The session provides attendees with a clear, accessible understanding of:

What gender-based violence (GBV) is, including its many forms and how it can manifest in student relationships

The impact of GBV, informed by Emily’s story and the wider student context

Common rape myths and how they contribute to harm

The role of bystander intervention in preventing and responding to GBV
-
How and where to access appropriate support within and beyond the institution
Content is tailored depending on a staff or student audience to reflect their role in addressing GBV on campus.
Who should attend?
We encourage institutions to provide regular awareness raising opportunities for staff and students.
This training is applicable for all staff, regardless of role, and all students.
Commitment
This training is delivered over two hours and can be delivered online or in person.
Cost
Delivery of an Awareness & Prevention Training session online to between 5-50 people costs £450 per group.
Institutions engaged in the EmilyTest Charter receive two free Awareness & Prevention training sessions and those who are part of the EmilyTest Network will receive a discount on the above cost.
There is no additional charge for running this course in person. However, the above fees do not cover venue costs, refreshments or lunch for participants. Institutions will also be responsible for the cost of travel, accommodation and sustenance for the EmilyTest trainer.
